CityLab, Presented by The Atlantic, Wins Best Conference From min + Folio’s FAME Awards

Washington, D.C. (April 2, 2014)—“CityLab: Urban Solutions to Global Challenges”—a partnership of The Atlantic, the Aspen Institute and Bloomberg Philanthropies—was awarded “Best Conference” by the min+Folio FAME Awards held today in New York City. The annual FAME Awards recognize the most outstanding events in the magazine industry in twenty categories. In addition to taking the prize for “Best Conference,” The Atlantic received honorable mentions for “Best First-Time Event” for the inaugural Start-Up City Miami, and for “Magazine Event Dream Team.”

The inaugural CityLab forum hosted last fall in New York City, gathered more than 400 global city leaders—including urban theorists, city planners, scholars, architects, and more than 30 mayors from across the world—for a series of conversations about urban ideas that are shaping the world’s metro centers.  Keynote conversations and smaller breakout sessions explored topics ranging from economic development and big data to public safety, privacy, and urban transportation.  Featured speakers included then New York City Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg, then mayoral candidate Bill DeBlasio, former Vice President Al Gore, and former Deputy Secretary of Homeland Security Jane Holl Lute, among others.
