Washington, D.C.--The Atlantic today launched The Atlantic Weekly, a new digital publication that, each week, will feature a curated selection of some of the very best journalism written for The Atlantic's digital platforms. Published on Friday afternoons, just in time for the weekend, The Atlantic Weekly is available for the iPhone and iPad as a stand-alone app in the iTunes Newsstand.
In addition to the week's most memorable stories on politics, culture, technology, and more, The Atlantic Weekly also features a collection of images from The Atlantic's daily photography blog, In Focus, as well as an exclusive selection from the magazine's archive, presented as it appeared in print, in the iPad version.
"We're aiming to provide a selection of stories and ideas on screens scrubbed of all distractions, for those moments over the weekend when readers can pause to sit back and let their minds roam," James Bennet, editor in chief of The Atlantic, said. "And for us, this is another experiment in putting to use any new means available to create and support the journalism of ideas that distinguishes The Atlantic."
The Atlantic Weekly is created for the busy reader who, amidst a torrent of news and information, wants the very best of TheAtlantic.com, TheAtlanticWire.com, and TheAtlanticCities.com packaged as an easy-to-navigate reading experience. Edited by Atlantic Senior Editor Geoffrey Gagnon, the publication's elegant design puts emphasis on the ideas, news, and photographs that matter most every week.

Today's issue includes Molly Ball's "Will Obama Lose the Left?"; Andrew Cohen's "The Stunning Trial of Whitey Bulger"; and photos from the protests in Turkey, curated by Alan Taylor. In honor of Father's Day this weekend, there is "How YouTube Taught Me to Be a Man" by Michael Anthony Adams. And for this inaugural issue, The Atlantic Weekly presents Henry David Thoreau's "Walking," which ran in the magazine in 1862. Bennet explains the publication's mission in a Letter from the Editor.
The Atlantic Weekly is The Atlantic's latest paid product initiative, reflecting the media brand's commitment to finding a sustainable business model to support its journalism and storytelling. The Atlantic Weekly joins the recently launched "The Atlantic Books," a long-form digital imprint for the magazine's expanding ebook initiatives, as well as digital subscriptions of the magazine that are available via mobile and tablet devices.
The app is free to download and includes a sample complimentary issue. New single issues are $1.99, a monthly subscription is $2.99, and a yearly subscription is $19.99. This all-new app, initially available in the iTunes Newstand, is optimized for both the iPhone and iPad. Access on Android-powered devices and other platforms will follow soon.
