At this year's Aspen Ideas Festival, we asked a group of scientists, activists, and filmmakers to name the largest environmental issue that eludes public knowledge. "I think it's how little water there actually is on the planet," says the oceanographer David Gallo. "Someone needs to give us a good slap upside the head and say: 'Look, this is about you and you need to pay attention.'" Other panelists include Pete McBride, Kathryn Sullivan, and Leilani Munter.

The Big Question is a series inspired by The Atlantic's back-page feature.
