In this short documentary, filmmaker Jenny Schweitzer profiles Arlethia West, a devout gospel singer with a powerful voice. West tells Schweitzer that she prefers to perform for the "destitute," for people who "feel like there's no hope."
"When I'm singing for God, I'm able to stand against whatever comes in my way," she said. "I'm able to hand a song, or a word in a song, that's far beyond my capabilities. It's something deep within me. It's in my bones."
This is the sixth film in a series about New York's subway musicians.
