How Will Michele Roberts Change the NBA?

In the May issue of The Atlantic, Max Chafkin profiled Michele Roberts, the head of the National Basketball Players Association. When Roberts was elected executive director last summer, she became the first woman to lead a major sports union—and she has already put herself in a rare position for a 21st-century union leader: one of strength. "By casting the owners as replaceable cogs who have merely been smart enough to buy into a monopoly," Max Chafkin wrote, "Roberts is challenging the underpinnings of all the major pro sports leagues."

In this clip, PBS NewsHour anchor Judy Woodruff interviews Roberts about leading the NBPA, her previous career as one of the country's top litigators, and the NBA's impending collective bargaining agreement, which will be up for negotiation in 2017.
