In Buenos Aires, a 19-year-old boxer named Leo Fonseca hopes his success in the ring can pull his family out of poverty. Filmmaker Peter Scheffer profiles Fonseca in this short documentary, which was co-produced by Fusion, as he trains in a gym beneath one of the city's busiest train stations. His trainer believes he is "very close to a professional level," but as Fonseca explains, his struggle has little to do with boxing: "The real fights are outside the ring for me."
Scheffer wrote about his experience filming this documentary for Fusion. It's part of a series called "I Am Baires," which investigates the lives and issues of people who live in Buenos Aires. I encourage you to take a look at the project. It's excellent.
