Yes, Quidditch Is Real

In the documentary Mudbloods, filmmaker Farzad Sangari explores the world of "muggle quidditch," a sport inspired by the Harry Potter books that has spread through college campuses across America. (J.K. Rowling imagined it as a high-flying escapade with magical broomsticks. The real world doesn't have rocket-powered brooms, though, so this version is more akin to a blend of rugby, handball, and hockey.) Sangari follows UCLA's team as they prepare for the upcoming International Quidditch Association World Cup, an international competition that attracts more than 1,500 players every year. In this clip, IQA Commissioner Alex Benepe discusses the origins of the World Cup event.
