When a murder happens in South Los Angeles Sal LaBarbera will often get the call. “That’s probably the toughest part,” says LaBarbera. “I can’t drive within these 30 square miles without recognizing a place where we have handled a tragedy.”
One-Eight-Seven from Joris Debeij focuses on the emotional ups and downs of LaBarbera’s career in the homicide department. The film deals with his struggles, his motivations, and how he copes with the constant cycle of violence. Shot throughout Los Angeles, the film includes a beautiful time-lapse and original musical composition from Ari Balouzian of Cliff Dweller Media.
