"Has Hollywood developed an allergy to originality?" a disgruntled movie goer asks the guy at the theater box office, sparking a debate about the rich history of adaptation, plagiarism, and other forms of appropriation in art. Pencil and watercolor illustrations bring their conversation to life and even Mark Twain weighs in at one point. This humorous short film by Drew Christie is a part of The New York Times' Op-Doc series. You might recognize Christie's signature style from his short Song of the Spindle, which makes the case for why humans should strive to be more like whales.
