"Armed only with boxed wine, firewood, and our DSLRs," the filmmakers at Sunchaser Pictures trekked through Death Valley National Park to observe the Geminid meteor shower on December 13. Director Gavin Heffernan explains that they shot long exposures and merged the stills with Starstax software to create the "star trails" you see halfway through the video. He has been shooting the night skies over Joshua Tree and other locations in California for an ongoing project, which he describes in an interview with the Atlantic Video channel here, where you can also see some behind-the-scenes photos.
