Ze Frank was making collaborative web videos before it was cool but his latest project is truly massive, and mesmerizing. As the intro of the video explains, 786 fans created percussion sounds, 1305 remixed those sounds, 186 played instruments to those beats, 96 people wrote and sang melodies, and 247 people created videos, timing their movements in sync with each other. DJ Mr. Norman mashed up all the music and the videos were all layered together, resulting in one totally weird but rather lovely music video. If you're skeptical, wait until about one minute in when the layered faces of 247 people open their eyes and smile all at the same time -- it's spooky. You can download the song here. Frank, who popularized (and probably invented) many of the video blogging strategies we take for granted today when he made a daily show for a year in 2006 and 2007, recently joined BuzzFeed to launch a new video initiative, so stay tuned for more.
