Electric Literature embraces digital media in publishing and produces web videos inspired by the short stories in its magazine. Here, artist Jonathan Ashley brings a single sentence from Stephen O'Connor's "Love" to life.
Ashely describes his creative process:
After creating a trailer for one of the short stories in the first Electric Literature issue, I was invited by Andy Hunter and Scott Lindenbaum to participate in their "Single Sentence" animation campaign. I was asked to choose from a selection of sentences from Electric Literature short stories, and translate it to animation. Stephen O'Connor's "Love" contains a rich atmosphere and texture that translates well to animation, particularly the image of the mysterious man appearing beside the lake. I decided to present the apparent tree-to-man transformation in a single shot, evoking the feeling of peering through tree limbs, perhaps seeing something you're not meant to see.
"Love" is available in Electric Literature's bookstore in print and digital editions.
