Ejecting A Floppy Disk—in Space!

In August 1991, Astronauts Shannon Lucid and James C. Adamson sent the first email from space from Shuttle Atlantis on STS-43. They used the beautiful gray machine in the video below: a Macintosh Portable. The Portable, an early laptop-like “portable computer,” weighed 16 pounds, had one megabyte of RAM, and cost $7,300.

And with that $13,000’s worth of machine (in 2016 money), they also ejected a floppy disk. In space. And it’s great:
