The GIF Pronunciation Wars are over. Alex Trebek, the oracle of these modern times, has weighed in on tonight's "Jeopardy." It's "jif." With a soft "g." And you know it's serious because this wasn't for any regular old "Jeopardy" question -- it was Final Jeopardy.

"The inventor of this image format said the OED wrongly has 2 pronunciations of it -- the right one is with a soft 'G,'" read the answer.

The question, of course, is "what is a GIF?"

All three contestants got it right, although only one wrote it correctly as "GIF."

He won.
