On February 25, 2012, one of the astronauts on board the International Space Station snapped this picture of the Mediterranean region at night. Snaking up the middle of the image is the Nile River, lined by lights indicating the human settlements on its shores. Alexandria lies at the river's delta, where it empties into the Mediterranean Sea. On the right you can see lights from Israel, Lebanon, Jordan, and Syria. The sea's northern shores are lined with lights from Turkey and Greece.
