News of possible liquid salt water on Mars this week has inspired renewed speculation about the Red Planet. As long as human beings have known the planet existed, people have projected their desires and social patterns onto the planet.

This sci-fi film from 1950 follows an overwrought group of astronauts after they miss the Moon and accidentally land on Mars. They discover a lost civilization destroyed by war.
