As record companies watch their profits chipped away by illegal downloads, here's a thought: bring vinyl back into vogue. True, music fans can't listen to records while they work out at the gym. But there are enough audiophiles out there that record companies could make a reasonable profit. The companies could start by launching a widespread hipster campaign -- TV commercials, subway posters, ads in Rolling Stone magazine -- promoting the superiority of analog sound. From there, they could release well-publicized limited editions of major releases and, based on the response, take it from there.
