When you think of Nashville cuisine, you may think of the city's iconic hot chicken. But venture a bit south of the city center and you’ll find Nolensville Pike, an international corridor where immigrants have established homes and started businesses. There, you'll find Mesa Komal, a commercial kitchen that helps food entrepreneurs to start and grow their businesses.
Mesa Komal is a program from local community organization Conexion Americas. It is home to several catering companies and food trucks. The name represents the melding of cultures in the kitchen—"mesa" is Spanish for table, "komal" is Kurdish for community, and "comal" is Spanish for griddle. A partnership between an independent movie theater and Mesa Komal is changing the Nashville food scene.
