Liveblogging the Debate

Editor’s Note: This article previously appeared in a different format as part of The Atlantic’s Notes section, retired in 2021.

One of the pleasures of working at The Atlantic is the office hubbub: one colleague’s cackle, another’s gift for puns, a third’s penchant for historical trivia, a fourth’s knack for spotting a telling quote. Every now and again, we get an excuse to lift the curtain a little, and share those conversations with our readers.

I’ll be live-blogging the debates tonight alongside some of my colleagues. Just like many of you, we’ll be following along, trying to make sense of what we hear, to put these remarks in context, and to figure out what actually matters. Usually, we share the finished products of such efforts; tonight, you get to see us making the sausage. We hope you’ll have as much fun with this as we do.
