Maybe Rick Perry just likes to have his picture taken.

The Texas governor was defiant on Tuesday as he turned himself in to be booked, fingerprinted and have his mugshot taken following his indictment Friday on charges of abuse of power.

"I’m going to fight this injustice with every fiber of my being, and we will prevail!" Perry told supporters at a press conference that seemed more like a rally in front of the courthouse. "We’ll prevail because we’re standing for the rule of law."

His supporters responded with chants of "Perry! Perry!" as he then headed into the courthouse.

Perry smiled for the mugshot, though he removed his hipster glasses. Conservatives quickly predicted the spectacle would produce a windfall for his potential 2016 campaign coffers.

Perry is accused of abusing his power by vetoing funding for a state public corruption unit whose director he had called on to resign. The director, Travis County district attorney Rosemary Lehmberg, had been arrested for drunk driving and refused to step down.

Republicans have rallied to Perry's defense, and while some Democrats have called on to resign, others have questioned the legitimacy of the charges and argued that prosecutors were criminalizing a political dispute.

"This indictment is nothing short of an attack on the constitutional powers of the office of government," Perry said.

The Democratic National Committee said Tuesday that Perry's booking was no laughing matter. Spokesman Michael Czin said the case would be decided "by the facts, not theatrics."

This may be a sideshow to Rick Perry but no amount of spin can cover up two felony charges. When Rick Perry has his day in court, his case will be decided by the facts, not theatrics.
We look forward to the evidence being presented in court that convinced a jury of the governor’s peers to indict.”
