Hillary Clinton reached out to President Obama on Tuesday to clear things up after criticizing elements of his foreign policy during an interview with Jeffrey Goldberg of The Atlantic.
"[Nothing] she said was an attempt to attack him, his policies, or his leadership," Clinton spokesman Nick Merrill told Politico in a statement yesterday. "... She looks forward to hugging it out when ... they see each other tomorrow night," he added.
Unfortunately, The White House said that the press would not be invited to document what can only be expected to be a beautiful, earth-shattering embrace. Since there will likely be no photographic evidence of the reconciliatory clasp, let's look back at some of Barack and Hillary's friendly, totally non-political, 100 percent genuine hugs and rank them in order from best to worst.
1. The Happy Hug
Hillary's eyes closed in bliss. Barack's eyes fixed on Hillary. The laughter. The joy. Okay, so this may not be the most conventional "hug" but it's the best of the group.
2. The "I'm Proud Of You, Honey" Hug
Hillary is doing a Presidential job of faking happiness at the 2012 inauguration.
3. The "Gimme Some Sugar" Hug
There's nothing like a big, wet, Presidential kiss to take a hug to a whole new level.
4. The "Put On A Brave Face" Hug
They probably didn't like each other much during the heated 2008 campaign for the Democratic Presidential nomination, but they gave this debate audience their best.
5. The Classic Hug
Nothing inspiring. But a solid effort. This hug passes, but not with flying colors.
6. The Side Hug
Technically this hug is a disaster: sideways embraces can never be top notch hugs. That being said, at least Barack and Hillary look like they're letting their guard down.
7. The "Are We Going To Kiss?" Hug
Let this be a reminder that when going in for a hug, pivot your head right or left, but ALWAYS avoid the center.
8. The "I Don't Know You Like That" Hug
Hillary may have been ready to unite the Democratic party after conceding the nomination for president to Obama, but that doesn't mean she's ready to take it to the next level.
8. The "I'd Rather Kiss The Air Than You, Asshole" Hug
There's no core body contact here and Hillary is NOT looking happy. Grade: F
