Republican Senate candidates were asked in a debate to indicate by show of hands whether they supported a minimum wage increase. While no candidate raised their hand, businessman Mark Jacobs (R) explained that he might vote for it as a senator. It's "something we could look at," Jacobs said, but suggested doing so would not address the root cause of the problem. State Sen. Joni Ernst (R) and former U.S. Attorney Matt Whitaker (R) both said they were against raising the minimum wage. Radio host and economics professor Sam Clovis (R) called it a "form of taxation." The candidates will face off in a June 3 primary. (Radio Iowa)
