Joe Biden Called Two Wrong Numbers Trying to Reach Boston's Mayor-Elect

Turns out that Joe Biden's peak Biden moment on election night is even more Bideny than we thought: the Vice President called not one, but two wrong numbers (at least!) in his quest to congratulate Boston's Mayor-elect Marty Walsh. The first wrong number was pretty understandable, as Biden accidentally called a guy with the same name, in the same city. We're not quite sure what happened with the second wrong number, however. According to the Huffington Post, the Vice President left a congratulatory message on the answering machine of one Toni, last name withheld, who does not currently live in Boston. She screened the call because she didn't recognize the D.C. area number.

Here's the message Biden left Toni for Marty, provided to the Post. The VP's office, by the way, didn't deny that the voice on the message is Biden's. It was left on Toni's answering machine at about 10:00 p.m. Tuesday night:

Mr. Mayor, congratulations. Marty, this is Joe Biden. Nice to see you win and nice to see Labor win. Anything I can do to help you from the White House in terms of your needs in Boston, holler man. Congratulations. Enjoy the night.

Toni's last name doesn't sound like "Walsh" (and her first name obviously is not Marty), so the reason for the mistaken call apparently has to do with her 617 area code cell phone number, a Boston number. It looks like Toni's number has been confused with Walsh's before. Again, the Huffington Post:

On Saturday, another man left a voicemail on Toni's phone looking for Marty Walsh. She called him back and confirmed that there was confusion over what the mayoral candidate's phone number actually was.

Based on the small sample size of Biden's two wayward congratulations this week, America has learned that Joe "Holler Man" Biden leaves some of the best congratulatory messages, ever. His first, to an actual Marty, opened with "Marty, you son of a gun, you pulled it off!" Who wouldn't want such an enthusiastic, albeit surprising call? Those hoping for a Biden call can increase their chances by successfully running for public office. Or maybe just change your area code to 617. At this point, Biden could still be searching for the right number, forever until the end of time
