Delaware legalized gay marriage Tuesday afternoon, making it the 11th state to do so, and only days after Rhode Island did the same. As The Atlantic Wire has explained with the updated map GIF above, the pro-gay marriage wave has a long way to go to undo two anti-gay marriage waves ushered in by Presidents Bill Clinton and George W. Bush. Six (mostly small) states have now legalized gay marriage since 2011, with three others legalizing civil unions. Minnesota looks ready to legalize gay marriage, with state Speaker Paul Thissen saying the bill there now has the votes to pass the House, as well as the state Senate, and Gov. Mark Dayton promising to sign it. In Illinois, the picture is less clear, though still, in a way, a sign of progress: the chairman of the state GOP has quit his job after some Republicans were outraged he backed gay marriage.
