Leading into this week's U.N General Assembly, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has been one of the hottest lunch dates in New York City. With a spot miraculously left open in his schedule, a meeting with none other than the Mayor himself was booked for Thursday afternoon.
Politicker reports the meeting with Netanyahu was just revealed when Bloomberg released his schedule for tomorrow to reporters this evening. The two will meet publicly at 3 p.m. tomorrow at Gracie Mansion, the press are invited, and they're broadcasting it on the New York City website. It's going to be a medium-sized deal, at least. There will probably be tea and refreshments. The two are good friends judging by the embrace from the 2011 file photo from when Bloomberg visited Jerusalem. Now that Netanyahu's on Bloomberg's turf, it's time to return the favor.
Of course, no one gets to meet with Netanyahu without the ill-fated meeting with the President coming up. Netanyahu wanted to meet Obama while visiting New York for the Assembly, but the two aren't in town at the same time. The President phoned to try and patch things up, but that didn't stop him from facing criticism for not meeting the Israeli PM anyway.
