Dems Make Another Push for Dream Act Support: Three Senate candidates are pushing for their colleagues at the Democratic National Convention to consider adopting the Dream Act as part of the party platform, the Associated Press reports. Rep. Martin Heinrich, the Senate candidate for New Mexico and one of the candidates behind the campaign, says that adopting the Dream Act would "provide voters with a clear choice on an issue that many care deeply about," the AP reports.
Less Diverse Schools Have More Discrimination: Minorities at universities or colleges with less diverse student bodies often experience more harassment and discrimination than at schools with more diversity, according to a study reported on by the Chronicle of Higher Education. At schools with lower diversity--minority enrollment at 20 percent or less--60.4 percent of minority students reported hearing discriminating comments, compared with the most diverse schools--minority enrollment at 36 percent or more--where it fell to 45.8 percent of minorities.
Ex-Mercedes-Benz Employees Sue Dealership: Two former employees at a New York Mercedes-Benz dealership are suing the company, alleging they were fired after finding racially offensive graffiti in the bathroom and bringing up the issue, the Huffington Post reports. One former employee said he felt resistance by other employees after he was hired as the only African-American manager in the showroom. Mercedes-Benz declined to comment but said the allegations were "baseless."
Voter Protection App Released: A group of civil-rights groups have released a mobile application aimed at helping to educate voters on their rights and prevent disenfranchisement, the Huffington Post reports. The Election Protection app is designed to help voters digitally verify their registration status, find their polling place and fill out forms among other actions to encourage voter turnout.
