Latham Fundraising E-mails Add Day to June
The campaign of Republican Rep. Tom Latham of Iowa gave his supporters an extra day to meet the Federal Election Commission's reporting deadline — one that doesn't exist. The Des Moines Register reported that a Latham fundraising e-mail asked readers to "show your support before June 31." The letter later used the deadline to create urgency, again using the faulty date. "It is crucial that you donate before the June 31 deadline," it says.
Latham Chief of Staff James Carstensen played along with the blunder, saying, " "˜More June days for a great nation' is the slogan we are unveiling."
