--Mississippi Lt. Gov. Phil Bryant (R), speaking Monday about what would happen if the state's personhood-at-fertilization amendment were to fail. "This is a battle of good and evil of epic proportions," added Bryant, who co-chaired the "Yes on 26" campaign. The measure did indeed fail Tuesday night, 58 percent to 42 percent, while Bryant defeated his Democratic opponent to become the state's next governor.
