After resisting calls to step down earlier in the week, Oregon Rep. David Wu has now decided to resign, the Associated Press reported. Wu had been most recently the subject of an "unwanted sexual encounter" accusation by the 18 year-old daughter of a close family friend. Last weekend, after The Oregonian first reported the incident, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi called on the Ethics Committee to investigate the allegation. At the time, Wu's advisers had told Politico that their boss wouldn't run for reelection in 2012 but also wouldn't immediately resign. One of Wu's more memorable tabloid moments was earlier this spring when he went on Good Morning America to oddly explain why he sent a picture of himself in a Tiger costume to his staff members.
National Journal reports that Wu will be resigning "after the debt ceiling crisis is resolved."
