President Obama has repeatedly urged his supporters this week to phone, email, and tweet Congressional Republicans that it's time to cut a deal on raising the debt limit. This afternoon, the official Obama 2012 Twitter account (@BarackObama) joined the fray, identifying GOP House members by name so that they could be deluged. A sample of what the Web 2.0 version of the bully pulpit looks like:
Louisiana Republican reps on Twitter: @repjefflandry (LA-03), @repfleming (LA-04), @usrepalexander (LA-05), @repboustany (LA-07).
Michigan Republican reps on Twitter: @congressmandan (MI-01), @rephuizenga MI-02), @repjustinamash (MI-03), @repdavecamp (MI-04)
Minnesota Republicans reps on Twitter: @repjohnkline (MN-2), @reperikpaulsen (MN-3), @michelebachmann (MN-6), @repchipcravaack (MN-8)
Massachusetts voters: Tweet @USSenScottBrown and ask him to compromise on a balanced deficit solution.
Colorado Republican reps on Twitter:@RepTipton (CO-03), @repcorygardner( CO-04), @RepMikeCoffman (CO-06)
The lesson: you can afford to be less than subtle when you have more than 9 million followers.
