It's not just about sports: a Kentucky Democrat is using the NCAA tournament as an opportunity to remind voters that he's on their side when it comes to Wildcats basketball, Hotline OnCall's Reid Wilson reports.

Kentucky Lieutenant Governor Daniel Mongiardo, a graduate of University of Kentucky medical school, is running in the Democratic primary to replace Sen. Jim Bunning (R-KY) against state Attorney General Jack Conway, a graduate and fan of Duke University.

Kentucky fans absolutely despise Duke, largely because of a small incident involving Christian Laettner, Grant Hill, and a last-second made basket...but we won't go into that. In any event, Mongiardo is using the NCAAs as an opportunity to remind Kentucky voters where he and his opponent stand, basketball-wise, offering Conway a public bet that Kentucky will go farther than Duke in this year's tournament. Both teams are No. 1 seeds.
