Blogger Mickey Kaus has taken out nominating papers to run for Senate against Barbara Boxer (D-CA) in the 2010 Democratic primary--but Pollster.com's Mark Blumenthal notes that, unfortunately for Kaus, California Democrats like Boxer: she has 71% approval (or 80%, depending on the poll) and 71% favorable ratings among Democrats in the state.
Kaus says he wants to offer primary voters a mechanism through which to register their dissent against party dogma, so the value of a Kaus run might not actually be in defeating Boxer--rather, in allowing disaffected or concerned Dems to send a message to the national party.
Long live democracy.
