Completing a two-day trifecta of House retirements, Reps. Diane Watson (D-CA) and Lincoln Diaz-Balart (R-FL) will retire from Congress, after Rep. Vernon Ehlers (R-MI) announced his retirement yesterday. 18 Republicans and 12 Democrats have stepped down from Congress this year; Ehlers's seat could potentially mark an opportunity for Democrats if things go right (though the district is rated R+6 by the Cook Political Report); Watson's L.A. district is solidly Democratic; Diaz-Balart's heavily Hispanic district is rated as solidly Republican by Cook.
