Some congressional Democrats want to cancel your health insurance and put you on Medicare, Michigan Republican Party Chairman Ron Weiser warned supporters today in a fundraising e-mail, adding that Democrats have redoubled their health care efforts in memory of the late Sen. Ted Kennedy. This, of course, is not part of the health reform initiative being undertaken by President Obama, nor is it under serious consideration by Democratic leaders. The reference is to Democrats who support a single-payer system (many of whom have been disappointed by Obama's initiative)--specifically, according to a Michigan GOP spokeswoman, to a proposal by Rep. John Conyers (MI) for national single-payer coverage.
"Some Democrats in Congress, including members from Michigan, are trying to pass laws to cancel your private health insurance and put your family on Medicare," Weiser wrote.
"In the past six weeks you have helped us kill ObamaCare and protect the health of American families. But the liberal elites who run the Democrat Party are back at it again. They've retooled their approach and are strengthening their voice in memory of the late Senator Ted Kennedy. They are determined," Weiser wrote.
Single-payer health care is not really on the table at this point; its chances are between none and none. Some Republicans have feared--and, notably, some liberals have hoped--however, that the government-run health insurance plan Obama has suggested would effectively crowd out private insurers entirely...that the public option's lower payment rates and other advantages would leave private insurers unable to compete and drive the country to a single-payer system.

This is not a scare tactic; it's the truth.
We Republicans are fighting for a more hopeful approach. We support letting families make their own choices about health care and keeping the massive federal government's role as limited as possible. Every dollar you give today will help us continue to spread our message of a better approach for all.
"The Democrats have presented very false choices to the American people..," said Congressman Mike Rogers. "I believe we can do better. The American people deserve real bipartisan health care reform that will lower costs and keep the federal government out of personal health care decisions."

The threat to your families health care is not just in Washington, D.C.
Michigan's Lieutenant Governor John Cherry recently said in a townhall meeting state government should provide a system of health care for all. Cherry also encouraged a group of leftwing activists earlier this year to hit the streets promoting his vision of a government take-over of family health care.
Barack Obama and John Cherry...they have one thing in common. They want state and national bureaucrats to dictate your health care options, choices and quality of care. Simply put, they have really bad and dangerous ideas.
Whatever they call it - ObamaCare or CherryCare - it will harm Michigan's hard-working families.
We need your help to beat them.
Lend your voice to the silent majority. We're making our voice heard, but it can't stop now. We must continue to spread our message. By donating today you can help us do just that and help stop the harmful power-grab Democrats are pursing in Lansing and Washington, D.C.
P.S. Making a donation today will help us organize and bring a hopeful message supporting the liberty-based approach to health care that protects American families and keeps healthcare decisions our own and not governments.
