In Photos: Before the Day Begins
-
Ryan Beshel, Publicist. What do you wake up thinking about? Every morning (before the stream of things to do that day starts to swirl) I wake up with a song playing in my head—without fail. The song changes daily, or sometimes it's a repeat. #

What's your morning ritual? Wake up, clear notifications/reply to email/social media, grab a t-shirt/pants and start with coffee from Heritage. Then back up to feed the fish before heading back to Heritage to work, or head out for whatever is in store for the day. #

How does social media play into your daily life? If I'm awake, I'm on it—until I fall asleep. I run several accounts for my clients and I keep a very close eye on all my personal channels. I wage a daily war against those little red app notifications. #

Are we more connected or disconnected than before? I think the answer is both—or more that we're connected in a different way than ever before. Social media does connect us, in the defined sense of the word. We have access to each other, yes—but that doesn't always result in a true connection. Social media offers us a place to find one another—but, true connection has to happen past our phones and computers. To me, it is in those real moments that we prove our ability to really connect. #

Reveca Torres, Nonprofit Director. What do you wake up thinking about? What are the three things that must get accomplished today? #
-
What's your morning ritual? Wake, do some stretching/yoga to get my body feeling as good as it can for the day, shower … or not shower, get dressed. Drink a smoothie while I watch the front neighbor at their morning routine from my window, grab a mug of coffee, and head over to the office. #

How does social media play into your daily life? I use social media for work but it can be a time-suck so I try and schedule all my work posts a week in advance. I purposely stayed away from social media apps on my phone until very recently because I didn't want to be consumed by it but that didn't work out very well. I now find myself taking specific photos or making mental notes of quotes or situations in my day so I can post them to my personal page. #

Are we more connected or disconnected than before? I feel more connected to those who live far away from me because I make an effort and honestly, disconnected to those who are close to me in geographical location. #

Nicole Suarez, Television Personality. What do you wake up thinking about? Snooze, please! Then everything I have to do comes to mind, so I wake up. Then I force myself to stop thinking about that for just a minute to be thankful, and set a positive intention for my day. #

What's your morning ritual? Every morning starts with a cuddle session with my dog, Gordo. I usually fit in a quick run, brush my teeth, eat breakfast, shower, get dressed, and ready for work. #

How does social media play into your daily life? Journalists are expected to develop a strong presence on social media and keep followers engaged because it's one of the main ways to share stories. Although it feels great to disconnect, I usually post at least once a day. #

Are we more connected or disconnected than before? Both. We're more connected to what is going in other parts of the world. We're farther from those who are closest to us. I think it's important to keep in mind that we only see what others want us to see on social networks. It's not really real. #
-
What is most important to you in life? Being happy. Being healthy. Being open to new experiences. Making the most out my time on this earth with my family and friends, doing some good in the world, and surpassing my own limits. #

Martellus Bennett, Athlete. What do you wake up thinking about? I usually wake up thinking about how I can't wait to see how awesome the day will be and wondering what adventure I will go on with my family, or in a book, or through creativity. I always ask myself how can I make the day special for my family! #

What's your morning ritual? Well, first I wake up. I mean, what’s a morning ritual that doesn’t consist of waking up? I usually brush my teeth, head to the Imagination Lounge, read whatever book it is that I am reading for an hour or two. Then, I proceed to whatever I have planned for the day. #
-
How does social media play into your daily life? I use Instagram as a place to save images of my adventures with friends and family. It makes it easier to find something of somewhat importance and read the caption on what I was feeling at the moment or at least thinking. When you take as many pictures as I do it can get difficult to keep up with them all. #
-
Are we more connected or disconnected than before? Connectivity has been redefined by our generation as being able to see or read what someone is doing. There's not too much emotional or physical connection anymore. Just because you follow someone on social media doesn't mean you fucking know them personally and you're definitely not connected to them. #

Joleen Marie, Graphic Designer. What do you wake up thinking about? Usually about how I wish I could sleep for another 30 minutes. #
-
What's your morning ritual? Lay in bed with my cats for 15 minutes, wash my face, make warm lemon ginger water, do my makeup, get dressed, and leave for work. I stop and get a coffee at Bang Bang Pie on my way to the train. #

-
How does social media play into your daily life? Pretty much in every aspect. I share things with my friends, write tweets for my yoga studio, and design and concept social media campaigns at work. #
-
Are we more connected or disconnected than before? I think it's different for everyone. I feel more connected because I'm very open about myself on social media and open to cultivating new in person friendships with my online friends. #
