Well, I was going to get around to posting cookbook and girl stuff guides, but I haven't; I decided to spend the weekend being desperately ill instead.  Here's last year's cookbook guide, and girl things; all of the advice remains sound.  Meanwhile, this year's As Seen on TV item is the Total Pillow, probably available at your local drugstore--it's not all that sturdy, but it did immeasurably improve the experience of spending a month traipsing around Mexico and China.  It is vastly more pleasant to sleep on than any other travel pillow I've ever used, because you can put it into a bunch of different positions and actually rest on it.  One of the best uses of $20 I've found if you're a traveller.
