What We're Following This Evening

The death of a music legend: Fans, celebrities, and others are paying tribute to Prince, who died today at the age of 57. Read Spencer on the singer’s legacy here, and Sacha on her first Prince concert here.

A presidential trip: Obama has arrived in the United Kingdom for a three-day visit. He’ll meet with David Cameron tomorrow, and the leaders will hold a press conference. Expect the president to back the prime minister’s plea that Britain remain in the European Union and avoid a “Brexit,” which Krishnadev has written about here. In the evening, Obama and first lady Michelle will have dinner with the Queen, who turned 90 today.

The FBI vs. Apple: FBI Director James Comey said the agency paid an unnamed third party “more than I will make in the remainder of this job, which is seven years and four months, for sure” to access the iPhone used by one of the San Bernardino shooters after Apple refused to unlock it. NPR reports that Comey earns about $185,000 a year, which means the FBI may have spent more than $1 million to open the device.
