What We're Following This Evening

The earthquake in Japan: A 6.4-magnitude quake in the country's southern region that struck late Thursday has killed at least nine people, destroyed buildings, and left thousands of homes without electricity and gas. Officials say people may be trapped under the debris of collapsed buildings.

U.S. vs. Russia: Earlier this week, the American military released video and photos that showed Russian fighter jets zooming past a U.S. Navy warship at close range in international waters. U.S. officials said the aircraft ignored “repeated safety advisories in both English and Russian.” Today, Russia’s defense ministry rejected the U.S. complaints.

Democratic debate: Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders will square off tonight at 9 p.m. in Brooklyn, a few days ahead of the primary in New York.
