Tensions in Brazil: President Dilma Rousseff, who is facing impeachment by the country’s legislature, accused lawmakers of staging a “coup” plot against her, and hinted Vice President Michel Temer was in on it. A congressional committee has voted to recommend going ahead with impeachment proceedings, and the lower house of Brazil’s Congress will vote on the matter this weekend.

An execution commences: The U.S. Supreme Court refused to halt the scheduled execution of a Georgia man tonight despite evidence his sentencing jury had been tainted by racism. Matt has the story here.
