What We're Following This Morning

Last night’s Democratic debate: Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders faced off last night in Flint, Michigan. The city has not only been devastated by the loss of jobs, but also by its lead-tainted drinking water. As Yoni wrote: “The real achievement of the night was forcing the presidential contenders to grapple with the very real problems of one very particular community.”

An emergency meeting on migrants: The EU, unable to cope with the worst migrant and refugee crisis since World War II, is urging Turkey to take back economic migrants in exchange for about $3.3 billion. At the meeting in Brussels today, EU leaders are also expected to announce that the route to northern Europe via the Balkans is closed.

North Korea threatens nuclear attack: The warning came ahead of the annual military drills between South Korea and the U.S. North Korea has previously issued such threats, but this year they follow the imposition of strengthened UN sanctions against Pyongyang for its nuclear test and missile launches.
