Apple vs FBI, cont’d: Engineers at the tech giant are working on enhanced security features that would render it impossible to bypass a locked iPhone, The New York Times is reporting. The FBI wants Apple to develop a workaround that would allow investigators to access the iPhone that belonged to one of the San Bernardino attackers. In an interview with ABC on Wednesday, Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO, likened the kind of software being sought by the FBI to cancer. Apple has refused to follow a court ruling that ordered it to cooperate with the bureau.
Egypt’s admission: The country has finally acknowledged that terrorists downed a Russian airliner over the Sinai Peninsula last October. Russia, the U.S., and the U.K. had all said they believed the plane was deliberately brought down, but Egyptian authorities, who were leading the investigation into the crash of the Airbus A321-200, which killed 224 people, urged caution—until now. ISIS’s Egyptian affiliate had claimed responsibility for the attack, which adversely affected tourism to the country.
