What We're Following This Evening

MLB issues first lifetime ban for performance-enhancing drugs: Jenrry Mejia, a right-handed relief pitcher with the New York Mets, received baseball’s ultimate punishment after testing positive for boldenone, a banned substance. Meija previously received an 80-game suspension for doping in April, followed by a season-long ban for it shortly after returning from that one.

Jim Gilmore drops out: The also-ran GOP presidential hopeful and former Virginia governor announced his withdrawal from the race on Friday after previously vowing to stay in. Gilmore received only 12 votes in Iowa and 125 votes in New Hampshire.

Pope Francis and Patriarch Kirill sign joint declaration: The heads of the Roman Catholic Church and the Russian Orthodox Church called for peace in Ukraine and the Middle East and praised each other’s support for unity. Their meeting in Havana was the first of its kind between the two leaders since the Great Schism of 1054.
