Claims of a North Korean hydrogen bomb test: As Matt reported early this morning, Pyongyang’s announcement signals “a surprising leap in nuclear weaponry for the reclusive totalitarian regime.” But there’s much skepticism about the North’s claim and the significance of such a test.

Refugees in Germany: The Interior Ministry says 1,091,894 people were registered in 2015 as asylum seekers. Syrians were the biggest group (more than 428,468 ), followed by Afghans  (154,046), and Iraqis (121,662).

Powerball jackpot grows: Someone could win an estimated $450 million. The winning numbers will be drawn tonight at 11:59 p.m. ET. As USA Today points out, the odds of winning are 1 in 292.2 million.
