The suicide attack in Kabul: At least four people are dead and about 20 others are injured after a blast in the diplomatic area of the Afghan capital. According to the BBC, the city has been hit by at least six bomb attacks since the start of this year.
How hot was last year? Really hot. NASA and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration announced that 2015’s surface temperatures were the warmest since modern record keeping began in 1880. Last year’s temperatures broke the record set in 2014 by 0.23 degrees Fahrenheit. Update: more here.
A ninth planet? Astronomers at the California Institute of Technology say they have new evidence that suggests there’s a bigger-than-Earth object orbiting in the edge of the solar system. The researchers say the object, which they’ve nicknamed Planet Nine, has about 10 times the mass of Earth, and takes between 10,000 and 20,000 years to make one orbit around the sun.
