Bases to tackle ISIS: The Pentagon has asked the White House for new military bases in in Africa, Southwest Asia, and the Middle East in order to fight ISIS more effectively, The New York Times is reporting this morning. “The bases could be used for collecting intelligence and carrying out strikes against the terrorist group’s far-flung affiliates,” the newspaper reports.
Muhammad Ali responds: The legendary boxer issued a statement last night in which he urged his fellow Muslims to “stand up to those who use Islam to advance their own personal agenda.” Although he did not refer to Donald Trump by name, he criticized “presidential candidates proposing to ban Muslim immigration to the United States.” He said: “They have alienated many from learning about Islam.” The statement was first reported by NBC News.
Bollywood star is acquitted: Salman Khan’s hit-and-run conviction has been overturned by the Mumbai High Court. He had been convicted in May in the case in which he was accused of running over, and killing, a homeless man sleeping on the sidewalk in 2002. The judge ruled today there wasn’t enough evidence to convict Khan, who is one of India’s most popular stars.
