Warplane Down: Turkish forces shot down a Russian fighter jet near the Syria border, claiming it had violated its airspace and ignored 10 warnings to leave. Russia has denied it entered Turkey’s airspace, and said the warplane was brought down by ground missiles. Update: More here.

Travel Warning: The U.S. State Department has issued a worldwide travel alert for Americans amid fears that extremists could stage Paris-like attacks, warning that groups like the Islamic State, al-Qaeda and Boko Haram “continue to plan terrorist attacks in multiple regions.”

Minneapolis Shooting: Police say a small group of white men allegedly shot five people who had been part of a Black Lives Matter protest in the city late Monday night. All five sustained non-life-threatening wounds, and police are searching for three suspects.
