Nobel Prize for Medicine: This year’s Nobel Prize in medicine was awarded to William C. Campbell and Satoshi Omura for their discoveries of a therapy against infections caused by roundworm parasites; and to Youyou Tu, for her discoveries related to a therapy against malaria. Update: More here.

Syria: The Islamic State has destroyed the Arch of Triumph, a historic site in the ancient city of Palmyra, activists and officials say. Meanwhile, Turkey said it intercepted a Russian warplane that entered its airspace Saturday. Russia has been carrying out airstrikes against groups, including the Islamic State, opposed to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. Update: More here.

Kunduz: Doctors Without Borders says it’s “disgusted” by statements from Afghan officials that appear to justify a U.S. airstrike that hit a hospital run by the group, killing 22 people. The group also said it was leaving Kunduz, which last week was seized by the Taliban before returning to the government’s hands.
