A reader flags a popular new track from MØ:
Like MØ’s “Walk This Way” (my favorite version being the Alle Farben remix—a little more upbeat), “Kamikaze” is driven by her vocalization ... less the lyrics, in my opinion, but the pacing, rhythm, and intonation. Combine that with a super-catchy beat and instrumental hooks, and I can listen to this song basically on loop.
If you’re not familiar with MØ:
Karen Marie Ørsted is a Danish singer and songwriter who has been compared to electropop artists such as Grimes and Twin Shadow. Besides being an acronym for her middle and last initials, the word mø means “maiden” or “virgin” in Danish. Her debut album, No Mythologies to Follow, was released in March 2014. In 2015, MØ was featured on Major Lazer and DJ Snake’s international hit “Lean On.”
Diplo, of Major Lazer, also collaborated with Mø on “Kamikaze.” She said in a release:
I love working with Diplo. It’s always such a fun and open-minded creative process. It’s about making memorable songs but, more than that, it’s about making pop music that wants to push boundaries. I’ve been loving all kinds of pop since I first fell in love with the Spice Girls, but pop needs to bring something new to the table, it needs balls. And that’s what you get working with Diplo.
