Obama to meet Putin: The American president has not met with his Russian counterpart in nearly a year. Their meeting at the U.N. on Monday comes amid strained relations over the Syrian civil war, as well as Russia’s role in the Ukraine conflict.

Volkswagen fallout: The Wall Street Journal reports that the beleaguered automaker will name Matthias Müller, the CEO of Porsche, as its new chief executive. He will replace Martin Winterkorn, who resigned Wednesday over the emissions scandal.
