Kevin McCarthy wants John Boehner’s old job:

This isn’t a surprise. McCarthy, a four-term California Republican, has long been considered the favorite to succeed Boehner, who announced Friday that he would step down from the speakership and retire from Congress at the end of October. McCarthy has served as majority leader, the No. 2 spot in the House, since last summer.

Boehner said last week he believes McCarthy “would make an excellent speaker.” Update: More from Priscilla. Some instant reactions from Twitter:
